How Ewha International students can study abroad

Hello~~

안녕하세요!

The topic for this week is will about how international students in Ewha can study abroad.

But before that let me give you one Korean word for today.

성적 ( song-jeok)

the meaning for word above is grade/mark/result. Ok let's move to the main topic.

Well, of course we are already study abroad from our home country but you still can go for exchange student program and can choose the university.

But how??

Okay let me make an introduction first.

This exchange program gives opportunities for the undergraduate and graduate students of Ewha Womans University to study in foreign partner universities which with Ewha Womans University have signed partnership agreement. The students are selected twice a year in accordance with the agreement between Ewha and respective partner universities or educational institutions and can study at the partner universities and experience the culture, thus cultivating global perspective.
Once the students are selected to the program, the tuition will be paid to home university, and the credits acquired during exchange experience at the host university will be transferred after set procedures.

Fee-paying Program

Selection and other administrative procedures are identical with those of Exchange Students Program, and the students for Fee-paying Program will be selected during the general exchange student selection process. Although the students for this program have to pay tuition to both home and host universities, tuition of host universities will be deducted and 80% of the tuition to the home university will be refunded to the students in the form of scholarship.
How to Apply?

Others

This is the procedure for you to going abroad.

Pre-departure Information

It just one thing that you have to worry about which is about credit transfer. and for sure about your money for living abroad after Ewha.

About the credit transfer, you have to refer and discuss well to international office and in my opinion you should ask your department professor and discuss well with her/him.

In my case, I have to finish my study in 4 years and have to graduate on time. So, going for exchange is quite a thing for me to think deeply. This is why students who are facing same situation like me a\have to think more than twice to go for exchange.

However, there's no big problem as long as you can cover the credit hour that you have to take in home university while you are studying in host university.

Or else, you can go for exchange program during summer or winter .

You may go to this link for further information.

http://cms.ewha.ac.kr/user/indexSub.action?codyMenuSeq=11261&siteId=oga&menuUIType=sub

If I could pick a university I would pick Malaysia for exchange program.. nah!  kidding.

For sure I will choose other countries because I can gain more experience, learn differ culture and etc.

Do ask if you have any questions!

Thank you :D

How I manage school costs.

Seoul adalah antara bandar yang mempunyai high living cost dan memang susah nak survive dekat bandar besar ni so, salah satu cara untuk survive adalah

1) Part time job.

Korea memang negara yang mahal but the good thing is they loooots of part time work for students. Foreigner or for the Korean themselves.

2) Stay in dormitory

Duduk dekat dormitory can cut some expenses for bill especially. But I'm staying outside of campus though. However, it is depends on you.

3) Asking books from your Korean friends or seniors or your country friends who study in Ewha. Yeah. You can save some money from buying thick, expensive but will be used for only 4 months . Or you can print or find the PDF from internet.

4) Cook if you are staying outside from dormitory.
Food ni salah satu perbelanjaan paling besar. Bukan shopping bukan apa. huhuu ..So bila masak ni memang jimat sikit la. Before fly nnti bawak rempah banyak2 from Malaysia. hehee. Sekali sekala kalau nak jimba boleh laa.

5) Transportation
Tapi disebabkan tinggal area Ewha jugak so kita xperlu naik public transport pergi sekolah. Weekend la kalau nak pergi somewhere.

Ok that's all from me for this week.

have a nice day

Second,

A Survey on Demand for TOPIK Class of Summer Semester 2016
This is a Survey on Demand for TOPIK Class at Ewha Language Center this summer.
This class is a special program for who are going to apply to the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK). The class will help you to get higher score with an organized class in line with new pattern and contents of the revised exam. International students who entered Ewha after the 2012 Fall semester should submit TOPIK 4 level scores before graduation, and students with TOPIK level 4 or above may have more scholarship opportunities. So this could be a good chance for you to get the TOPIK score you want.

This class can be open depending on the number of students who submit the Survey form, and will not be open if there are not enough students. Below is the rough information about the class.
1.     Eligible applicants: Students who will take TOPIK exam for level 4 or above
2.     Period: around June 20th ~ July 15 (this can be changed later)
3.     Total hours: 48 hours (4 hours a day x 12 times)
4.     Tuition: 400,000\ (Students needs to pay the tuition, but OIA will reimburse you all the cost if you fulfill both of the 2 conditions below)
1)     More than 80% of Attendance
2)     Who gets improved TOPIK level (level 4 or above) on the exam taken after the class
5.     Required documents: Please submit the survey form attached to this e-mail to GSC (ECC 329) by May 17th.

I think there are students out there who need to take TOPIK exam as it is a requirement to graduate.

Third,

They are having  Library Tour from May 16th through May 20th. This is a good chance for you to get useful tips about using library. You can apply through brochures below, and they are in four languages (Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese). Hope this tour helps you.

School and class environment

School/class environment – level of difficulty of classes, overcoming language barriers, etc

Hello~

안녕하세요!

For this week I will talk about school and class environment, more to the level of difficulty of classes and how to overcome language barriers and many more!

But first let me give you a new Korean word for today!

The word is...

과제- gwaje

gwaje means assignment . This word is frequently used in university than normal school because they have other word for homework which is 숙제. (sukje)

So after this if you hear gwaje in drama or Korean song you can know the meaning of the word aite? ehhe

Talking about the level of difficulties in classes, my major ( the engineering course itself) is a tough course , even if I am taking it in my home country.

It is 100% more tougher because I am taking it in 70%~100% in foreign language to be exact Korean language.

I was alive for 18 years old using Malay and English as my main languages in my daily life. It is totally a new thing for me.

However, we can become a wiser people as we learn new and many languages. I can say most of my time are used to do the translation as I am doing my revision. Yes! I revised the subjects taught in the classes but at the same time I learn new vocabs everyday. ( But sometimes I forgot the words that I learned which I have to search it again in the dictionary to find the meaning )

How about my exams? Are they in Korean too?

Well.. they do have English-taught courses, and Korean-taught courses. I usually take English taught classes for subjects other than my major subjects so for those courses my exams in English. Other than that it is in Korean. For certain classes, my professor gave me excuses to use dictionary while answering the questions. And sometimes we just ask the professor give us English questions for foreigners. Unfortunately, not all professor agreed to give us English questions.  I got two professors yelled at me during last last semesters because I was asking them to give English questions for exams . hehe. Then they said it is a good way for me to improve my Korean and they don't even asked for Korean version during their time in US. ( most of my professors were doing their PhD in the United States)

All we can do is work harder and harder.

In order to get good grade and survive in this Korean world, of course we have to mingle with your Korean classmates, course mates and your batch mates. Because they are soooo genius and you can't if you are not asking them for tips. They do have the past year  questions and answer scheme for the assignments. Even sometime they don't even want to give us because everyone is competing to each other.

But that's one of the way to overcome language barriers.  You can approach your Korean classmates using their language , Korean language and they will be surprised because you can speak in Korean. They will ask you if you have phone number or Kakao ID then you will go eat together and be friends!

Team project is one of a medium for you to make more Korean friends and overcome language barriers. ( Will talk about how to make Korean friends in another entry . *wink* )

I think I gave lots of explanation about school and classes in my previous entries too. If you have any questions you can drop comments .

That's all for this week.

Thanks for your time!

Have a nice day ;)
