How to make Korean friends/friends at Ewha

Assalamualaikum and haiii

안녕하세요!!

I am really in longg and relaxing vacation ( at home) after Eid celebrations. all my relatives already go back to their hometown and here I am doing nothing haha.

andd.. for this week topic will be about the tips in making Korean friends.

First. Smile!

Second. Say hai!

Ok....these are not really good tips.

You have to know that there are lots of program involving Korean and international students in Ewha. For exmple:

  • mentoring program
This a program where a Korean student is assigned to help international students to get adapted in Korea life and helping you if you have problems. I still contact my mentor since 2014 till now and she graduated and doing intern program.
This is us. Me and my Malaysian friend, Turkey and Guatemala friends. Automatically you can make friends from other countries too.!

  • tutor/tutee program
As an engineering student, I really need helps from seniors and friends in my study. Thus, I join the tutoring program as the tutee and it does help. All of the members are my batchmate from the same course.

  • Dormitory resident community program

This is a bunch of people I really love so much ahaa.

  • Member training. Something like two days one night camp ( my batu loncatan ( effective way in knowing and getting closer to all my department friends or called as 동기. ( batchmates)

To your batchmates:

Tips- don’t be too shy to say hi and greet them first. They might don’t have confidence to speak in English. Just use your Korean. Even you are not really good in Korean. But at least u tried and they know your ability in speaking Korean. If they started to speak casually ( speaking without ending form of . By using / it means that you can be reaallyyy close with them. And they will call you eonni if you are older than them. Tehee. During my first year I barely to get close with my batch mate in class. As I entered the second year I said Hi to one of my Korean friend and because of that  we are really close to each other now.

Also, I didn't join the camp during my first year because I don't drink alcohol and because I am a muslim I really have restrictions in food. I don't eat pork etc. But professor made it a 'must go' program for our batch . Thus, I go and there I made some friends and they noticed me . I am not in awkward situations anymore.

You can find many international students in English taught classes / can make Korean friends through the classes too. Since they are really good in English . you can speak with them comfortably using both languages.
-        Usually, international students won't ignore you if they know u because you are in same conditions with them. And can understand each other very well.

  •      Since they already recognize you, you can have  chit chat with them if you happen to meet them on the street
Last but not least, your own country student council . You have to keep in touch with them since they are the best companions if you miss your country. I'm blessed to have Malaysians in Ewha organizations and also Persatuan Pelajar Malaysia Korea (PPMK) Malaysian students in Korea organization here in Korea. They really help a lot and I'm also one of the committee member for this session.
